Roma – (Com.) A delegation of MEPs from Parliament’s SANT subcommittee is in Stockholm on October 28 and 29 to visit the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC).
The SANT Committee’s mission is a concrete opportunity for high-level discussions on critical public health issues affecting the European Union. As the EU confronts multiple challenges in disease prevention, this mission provides a platform to discuss strategic measures and build on prior decisions. According to the programme, discussions will prioritize pandemic preparedness, strengthening public health infrastructure, enhancing coordination, and rebuilding trust in EU health institutions. Additionally, pressing health challenges—including misinformation, antimicrobial resistance, vaccine hesitancy, and robust data sharing among EU Member States—will be central topics.
EPP MEP Elena Nevado del Campo said the Public health is the guarantee of European health. She pointed out in a tweet “We requested today at ECDC to strengthen health coordination among Member States. We must support the projects that make us live in an area of security and stability thanks to the European Union”.
Today MEPs will also discuss the agency’s response to health threats, such as bird flu and Marburg virus.
